Frequently asked questions

Is this calculator exact?

No. It shows a typical published range for each market, not a quote for your specific deal. Actual commission is negotiated between you and your agent and varies by property type, agency, and how competitive your local market is. Always confirm the rate in writing before signing anything.

Who usually pays the commission — buyer or seller?

It depends on the country. In most of the US, UK, Australia, Canada and South Africa the seller pays and it's split with the buyer's agent internally. In the UAE, both buyer and seller typically pay their own agent separately. In Germany, rental commission is paid by whoever instructed the agent (usually the landlord) under the Bestellerprinzip rule. Each row in the table above states who typically pays.

Does this cover rental commission too?

This version covers sale-side commission only. Rental and letting agency fees follow different local conventions (often a percentage of annual rent, or a flat one-month fee) and aren't included yet.

Where does the data come from?

Publicly available market surveys and industry reporting per country, cross-checked where possible, and dated 24 September 2026. Rates change and vary regionally within each country, so this is a starting point for a conversation with a local agent, not a substitute for one.
